Local music legend Benny Fiacco has been helping the Greater Binghamton music scene grow and flourish for decades. And now, the community will celebrate “Brother Benny” by immortalizing him on the Wall of Stars at the Forum Theatre.
On June 20th, Fiacco will join the ranks of Johnny Hart, Alma Fortez, Richard Deacon, Bill Parker, Rod Serling, and more with a permanent star at the Forum. The star will celebrate and honor Fiacco’s contributions as a musician, music educator, and business leader. The induction ceremony will take place at 5 pm at the Forum and is open to the public. That event will be followed with a celebration at Tap House 66 in Johnson City, with food and live music.
Benny Fiacco has owned and operated Music City since the noted local music store was founded in 1981. He’s an accomplished musician, having been a member of some of the region’s most storied bands. He’s shared stages with the likes of ZZ Top, Blue Öyster Cult, the Marshall Tucker Band, the Charlie Daniels band, and more. And as an educator, Fiacco has helped countless musicians develop their skills on a variety of instruments through the years.
A much-deserved honor for Benny Fiacco, an influential local music figure
Benny Fiacco has been directly contributing to the music scene in the Greater Binghamton region for decades. His contributions have inspired, taught, and professionally developed the aspirations of countless local and regional musicians. He’s sponsored live music events, rented much-needed rehearsal space to bands, helped musicians network, and so much more. This is a much-deserved honor for an influential local music figure without whom the Greater Binghamton music scene simply wouldn’t shine as brightly as it does.
Having a star on the Wall of Stars is an incredible honor. The Greater Binghamton region has a long history of churning out hyper-talented creatives spanning every discipline of the arts. And it’s refreshing to see the city—and specifically the Friends of the Forum nonprofit who oversees the Wall of Stars—celebrate the city’s history and its positive cultural and entertainment contributions.
The original Binghamton Walk of Stars was located at the MetroCenter, but suffered through many years of wear and neglect. The Forum and the nonprofit Friends of the Forum group rescued those stars in 2014. They were restored, and now adorn the Wall of Stars where they’re protected from foot traffic and the elements. Nearly 60 celebrities are featured on the Wall of Stars, including musicians, actors, writers, producers, and more.
On a personal note, I’m humbled to reveal that I’ve been invited to deliver a speech during the proceedings, too. It’s an incredible honor to be included in such an historic event that celebrates someone I’ve looked up to since childhood.
We hope you’ll come to both of these exciting events and show Brother Benny some of the love he’s shown our music community all these years!
