Artist Profile: Revenants

We put a lot of energy into promoting the Parlor City Sound—music that defies the boundaries of genres and breaks as many molds as possible. But there’s also a strong history of bands in our area that stick to and elevate specific genres, too. A point exemplified by Greater Binghamton’s hard-hitting classic blues rock band Revenants.

This Binghamton and Johnson City trio play an entertaining and energetic blend of well-written original tunes with classic rock staples in the mix. And their sound is a distinct and honest reflection of their influences—you’ll hear the stylings of Gov’t Mule, Black Crowes, Allman Brothers, and Little Feat, but you’ll also pick up the much heavier overtones of Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Primus, and Motorhead.

Revenants entertain crowds with top-notch originals and covers, and they’re also hard at work recording a new all-original album, which we’re hoping to add to our 2024 Binghamton music release calendar as soon as we learn more.

Background

Formed in January 2022, Revenants consists of Chuck Kozlowski on drums and Mike Thompson on bass and backing vocals, both of whom formerly played with Grace’s Ghost. They join the band’s frontman, Rev DiCerto, who takes up lead vocals and lead guitar. DiCerto, a Connecticut native who moved to the Triple Cities in 2018, had toured to Binghamton earlier with the bands Kindred Soul, Rev and Ron, and Sol Dog, all of whom performed at Cyber Cafe West and other local venues.

To truly strike a proverbial chord in the Greater Binghamton music scene performing in the blues rock space, you really need to show up with instrumental heat, and that’s something Revenants have in abundance.

Rev DiCerto puts serious guitar mastery on display, squeezing every last drop of that classic Les Paul sound out of his rig with absolutely scorching solos. Mike Thompson plucks his bass in a style that immediately reminds me of John Paul Jones or John Entwistle, holding the rhythmic line while venturing into dynamic tonality. And not to be outdone, drummer Chuck Kozlowski pairs a powerful 70’s rock rhythm with a 90’s alternative sensibility, which really compliments the band’s heavy classic rock vibe.

Revenants introduced themselves to the Binghamton music scene with a riveting performance at Music in the Glen 2022, and have since performed at Binghamton Porchfest 2022 and Blues on the Bridge 2023. They keep an active gigging schedule, so be sure to keep an eye out and see them live when you get the chance.
